|b Leventhal's self-regulation model is a model designed to understand the role of mental representations of illness. It assumes that the individual participates actively in the management of his health problems, he builds cognitive and emotional representations of his disease that guide his coping behavior and modulates his responses to the disease. In this article, we provide researchers and professionals in psychology and psychiatry with a descriptive and explanatory theoretical basis of representations of mental illness and coping behaviors.
|d Le modèle d'autorégulation de Leventhal est un modèle conçu pour comprendre le rôle des représentations mentales de la maladie. Il suppose que l’individu participe activement à la prise en charge de ses problèmes de santé, il construit des représentations cognitives et émotionnelles de sa maladie qui guident son comportement d’adaptation et module ses réponses face à la maladie. Dans cet article, nous fournissons, aux chercheurs et aux professionnels en psychologie et en psychiatrie, une base théorique descriptive et explicative des représentations de la maladie mentale et les comportements d’adaptation.
