المستخلص: يهتم هذا البحث بدراسة أثر العتبات -لغوية كانت أو بصرية -في الكشف عن دور الترجمة في إحداث التبادل الثقافي وتقريب المفاهيم وتكوين صورة عن الآخر/ المترجم له؛ فالترجمة تصنع نصاً جديداً يتقاطع مع الثقافتين العربية والإنجليزية ولا ينفصل عنهما، ولاسيما أن الترجمة-وفقاً لجينيت-عتبة فوقية تقع خارج النص وتصاحبه في الوقت نفسه. وقد اختار البحث خمس روايات خليجية مترجمة إلى اللغة الإنجليزية؛ للوقوف على أثر الترجمة في تشكيل العتبات (المناص) بين النصين: العربي والمترجم؛ إذ تصنع للنص وجوداً مختلفاً في فضاءات قرائية أخرى. ويستمد البحث مرجعيته المنهجية من اتجاهين مهمين: شعرية العتبات عند جينيت، والترجمة بوصفها حقلاً معرفياً مهماً ليعتمد ما نسميه (القراءة المناصية الترجمية)، وليقف على صور متنوعة لتشكيل العتبات؛ حيث العتبات الثابتة بين النصين: العربي والمترجم، والعتبات المتغيرة، وكذلك العتبات الجديدة التي تتطلبها الترجمة، وليصل إلى علاقة الترجمة بوصفها عتبة نقدية بعتبات النص الفوقي التي تدعم الترجمة سواء قبل إصدار الطبعة المترجمة أو بعدها.

This research study is concerned with the impact of thresholds, be they linguistic or visual, on role of translation in creating cultural reciprocity and conceptual approximation and in forming an image of others (whose works are translated). Translation generates a novel text that intersects with, rather than breaking off from, the Arabic and English cultures, especially because translation, according to Genette, is an meta-text threshold that simultaneously accompanies the text and positions itself outside it. The study selected five Gulf English-into- Arabic translated novels to examine the impact of translation on the formation of thresholds (intertextualizing) between the two texts, the source text and the Arabic translation, as it makes a different presence of the text in other reading dimensions. The study draws on two important methodological facets, Genette's poetic thresholds and translation as an important field of knowledge, in order to explore a variety of ways for forming thresholds and to draw on the so-called translation intertextualizing reading, where the fixed thresholds in the two texts, the source text and the Arabic translation, are and where the varying thresholds as well as the novel thresholds necessitated by translation exist. This is to come up with the relationship of translation, as a critical threshold, with the thresholds of the meta-text that supports translation, either before or after the translation edition is issued.
