Notre analyse concerne, une expression, une formule de politesse, très usitée, aussi bien dans le monde francophone qu’en Algérie: « Je m’excuse ». Cette forme laconique prononcée en guise de réparation suite à une offense suscite souvent des remarques, tantôt acides, tantôt ironiques de la part des gardiens du « temple » qui plongent souvent le locuteur dans un embarras le laissant sans voix. Il va sans dire que l’argument d’autorité ne suffit pas à dissuader les usagers qui continuent à braver l’interdit. Notre propos est, donc, d’essayer d’argumenter en faveur de l’emploi de la formule si décriée « je m’excuse » par le biais d’une approche à la fois syntaxique, sémantique et pragmatique.
