المستخلص: During its evolution, the Algerian cinema has been through several stages. According to the course of time, evolving ideas, and changing mentalities, it has dealt with various themes and openly discussed gender-related issues. Consequently, the space given to women remains one of the most delicate subjects having been raised and tackled by numerous sociological and anthropological studies which have questioned her representation, her social status and her roles. This research seeks, within a socio-semiological approche, to demonstrate how the movie entitled “Rachida” portrays the female “world” during the black decade. It also aims to show how cinematographic figures, particularly the feminists, like the film director Yamina BACHIR-CHOUIKJ, brought taboo issues up and defended the Algerian woman and her tense rejection of the phallocentric and patriarchal system and of the negative stereotype reducing her to the submissive role and depicting her inferior to man. To this end, analyzing the social representations of women would unfold new leads to reflect upon their status in Algerian culture and society.

Dans son évolution, le cinéma algérien a connu plusieurs phases. Selon la marche du temps, de l’évolution des idées et des mentalités, il a traité plusieurs thèmes différents et n’a pas lésiné sur ceux qui traitent des rapports entre les sexes. Conséquemment, la place accordée à la femme reste l’un des sujets les plus délicats qui ont été soulevés et abordés par de nombreuses études sociologiques et anthropologiques et dans lesquelles on s’interroge sur sa représentation, sa position sociale et le rôle qu’elle remplit dans la société. Dans ce présent travail, nous tenterons dans une approche socio-sémiologique d’exposer comment le film « Rachida » représente le « monde » féminin à l’époque de la décennie noire. Comment certaines figures cinématographiques notamment féministes, à l’instar de la réalisatrice Yamina BACHIR-CHOUIKH, ont soulevé quelques sujets tabous en défendant la femme algérienne et de son refus crispé du système phallocratique et patriarcal, du stéréotype négatif et réducteur qui la cantonne au rôle de femme soumise et inférieure à l’homme. Dans cette perspective, il nous semble que l’analyse des représentations sociales de la femme pourrait ouvrir de nouvelles pistes de réflexions sur son statut dans la culture et la société algérienne.
