| 520 | |b This study examines grammatical cohesion in Chemistry research article introductions from Algerian and international journals. Descriptive case study as form of research was applied. Using AntConc software, 24 introductions (12 from each journal) were analyzed for cohesive devices – reference, conjunction, substitution, and ellipsis – as per Halliday’s (1976) taxonomy. The question was to know if Algerian Chemists use grammatical cohesive devices qualitatively and quantitatively in similar way as chemists from international community. Conjunction was most frequent, with 230 and 540 occurrences in Algerian and international articles; reference followed with 172 and 308 instances. Substitution and ellipsis were infrequent, likely due to a preference for more direct cohesive elements possibly due to vocabulary limitations among Algerian chemists | ||
