المستخلص: We aim in this research to clarify the controls of a sound understanding of the prophet’s sunnah in contemporary reality, as adherence to them guarantees the safety and strength of inference of the hadith. Thus, we concluded by defining the meaning of the controls for understanding the Sunnah as those criteria that are invoked in understanding the verbal, actual, and reported Sunnah in a proper understanding, and also to identifying those controls and arranging them into two parts: the controls of good understanding of the sunnah before the inference process begins; such as verifying the authenticity of the Hadith.. as well as its controls during the inference; such as referring to the reliable sources for codifying the Hadith and its explanations.
