|b Despite its popularity among language learners, English maintains to be a barrier in the literature classroom. Regardless of the teaching-learning environment, a high level of anxiety has been witnessed among students of foreign literature in the Algerian University. Two main factors, motivation and expectation, have a direct influence on anxiety and, hence, have been found to put an impact on the students’ final exam grades. This paper will undertake a quantitative-qualitative study to check the influence of students’ motivations and expectations, to verify to what extent it affects their anxiety toward the learning experience, and how it is reflected in their exam results.
