|a لموسوعة جورج جوردن لوريمر أهمية ملحوظة في وسط مصادر كتابات تاريخ الخليج الحديث العربية والغربية على حد سواء. نظرًا للمكانتين التاريخية والأكاديمية اللتين تتمتعُ بهما الموسوعة كان لابُد لباحثي التاريخ الخليجي أن يتطرقوا في مباحثهم إلى أطروحات، هي إما رئيسة أو ثانوية الموضوع بالنسبة إليهم، لها ارتباط وثيق بسيرة حياة المُؤلف ج. لوريمر من شتى الأصعدة جنبًا إلى جنب مع دراسة الآلية التي تشكلت من خلالها عملهُ الضخم موسوعة الخليج إضافة إلى نقدها ظاهريًا وباطنيًا بشكل شمولي. تهدُفُ هذه الدراسة إلى جمع بيانات تاريخية عدة تنوط يبيوغرافية ج. لوريمر وأسرتهُ، فضلا عن الاطلاع المُباشر على مُجلدات موسوعة الخليج الأصلية لتحقيقها من الناحية المادية - الظاهرية التي أخرجت عليه علاوة على الناحية الباطنية بشكل يشملُ مُجمل مُحتواها دون تفصيل. إضافة إلى ما سبق اهتمت الدراسة في نقد مدى موثوقية ترجمات الموسوعة العربية الثلاثة بوساطة مقارنتها بالنُصوص الأصلية عبر نموذج فصل "تاريخ الكُويت" الواقع في مُجلد الموسوعة الثاني لجُزئه الأول "التاريخي"، وفي نقد أيضا الدراسات السابقة التي تطرقت إلى سيرة حياة ج. لوريمر وكيفية تشكُل موسوعتهُ. سلكت الدراسة أربعة مناهج لتحقيق أهدافها هي المنهج الوصفي، ومنهجا المقارنة والنقد التحليليان، ومنهج تحقيق المخطوطات والمطبوعات القديمة. اعتمدت هذه المناهج على مصادر أولية وثانوية تُعنى بسيرة حياة ج. لوريمر ونقد الموسوعة من نواح مُختلفة؛ فجُل هذه المصادر ذات صبغة أجنبية لما لها من الريادة في دراسة موضوعات الدراسة ولأنها مُستجدة على الدوام في عملية النشر الأكاديمية. تمخضن الدراسة عن جُملة من النتائج إلى جانب توصيتين. لعل من أبرز النتائج هي تغطية سيرة حياة ج. لوريمر على أربع جهات هي الشخصية والأسرية والوظيفية والعلمية - الأدبية، وما أسفر عنها من تقويمات تاريخية قد طالت دراسات سابقة متطرقة لهذه القضية. أيضًا انتهى تصفحُ مُجلدات الموسوعة الأصلية إلى نقدها من شقيها الظاهري والباطني معًا؛ ما ساعد نتيجة على تحقيق مدى جودة أعمال ترجمة الموسوعة العربية في هذين الجانبين من ناحية، وعلى الكشف من ناحية أخرى عن بيانات تاريخية جديدة تنوط بحيثيات تدشين مشروع موسوعة الخليج وسير عملهُ وعواقب نشرهُ في الوسطين البريطاني - الحكومي والعربي الأكاديمي.
|b John Gordon Lorimer, his Family, and the Genesis of the Gulf's Gazetteer and its Arabic Translations: A Historical and Critical Study By Mohmmed Rashed Kharshan And Ibrahim Yehia Al-Busaidi And Badar Hilal Al Alawi There is a considerable position for John Gordon Lorimer's Gazetteer amongst primary sources of Arabic and western modern Gulf history writings. Considering the Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf's historical and academic reputations there was an academic necessity for the Gulf's historians to shed light on the author and his family's biographies in varied aspects in addition to critically studying the genesis of the Gazetteer. The study aims to collect various historical data relevant to J. Lorimer and his family's backgrounds. Furthermore, the original Gazetteer's physical form is subject to a descriptive editing process and critical- comprehensive review for all its five volumes and a slipcase. Another critical review is applied to two types of selective publications; first of which are those studies that are interested in the biographies and the Gazetteer's formation; secondly, are three Arabic translations of the Gazetteer's which are compared in terms of their translations' accuracy to original contexts of an elected chapter in the Gazetteer, i.e. the seventh chapter of the History of Kuwait. The study is based on four methods for approaching its issues: descriptive method, analytical comparison and critical methods, and codicology method. The methods are grounded on numerous primary and secondary sources; most mainly of which are Western-English publications. Several results and two recommendations are concluded. The most significant outcomes are unveiling new biographical information about J. Lorimer and his family, for the earlier are matters regarding his personal, employment, and literary aspects. Besides, incoming conclusions are connected to the Gazetteer's genesis regarding purposes, process as well as publishing consequences within the British Raj in the early 20th c. Moreover, as regards the three Arabic translations, the study demonstrates how authenticity the Omani translation has compared to others in defining the Gazetteer's physical and content despite some shortcomings which are less than what the others have.
