المستخلص: تعتبر المؤسسات الصناعية المسئول الأول عن تلوث البيئة نتيجة المخلفات الناتجة عن منتجات هذه المؤسسات والمتمثلة في (النفايات الورقية والبلاستكية والخشبية والمعدنية) حيث يتم وضعها في مكبات القمامة وحرقها والتخلص منها مما يعد هدر للموارد الطبيعية للدولة وندرتها وتأثيرها على البيئة المحيطة بها وما تسببه من أضرار اجتماعية واقتصادية وبيئية، وحيث أن مجال التصميم الصناعي يعتبر من المجالات الحيوية التي تحاول دائما إحداث علاقة حميمة بين الإنسان وبيئته ومنتجاته التي تعينه على الحياة، فكان لابد من تدخل المصمم الصناعي باعتباره الركيزة الأساسية في هذا المجال والذي يعمل على إيجاد الحلول المناسبة والمبتكرة والتي تسهم في وضع حد لهذه المشكلات دون التأثير على الجوانب البيئية أو المساس بدور المنتج الصناعي في تلبية احتياجات المستهلك ويكون ذلك من خلال العمل ضمن الإطار المنهجي للاستدامة حتي يتسني له الوصول إلى اعتبارات بيئية للتصميم المستدام وهو التصميم المتوازن بيئيا هو الذي يصمم وفقا لمفهوم الاستدامة أي يراعى فيه أبعاد الاستدامة الثلاثة الاقتصادية (على سبيل المثال سعر المنتج وخبرة العملاء)، البيئية (الطاقة واستهلاك الموارد والانبعاثات)، الاجتماعية (ظروف العمل والآثار المترتبة على الاستخدام)، ويقدم منتجات تحمي البيئة والصحة العامة في كامل دورة حياتها بداية من استخراج المواد الخام وحتي التخلص النهائي منها من أجل تحقيق وتفعيل اعتبارات التصميم المستدام داخل المؤسسات الصناعية وخلق ميزة تنافسية خاصة بالمؤسسة من خلال تحقيق التوافق البيئي بين الإنسان، والمنتج حيث المنافسة الحقيقية أصبحت من خلال تصميم أفضل المنتجات الملائمة للبيئة، والتحسين المستمر لها، حيث أصبح التصميم في المرحلة الأخيرة أحد الركائز الأساسية لتحقيق متطلبات الجودة، والتوافق البيئي، وذلك نتيجة للمشكلات البيئية الناتجة عن التلوث بانتهاء العمر الافتراضي للمنتج.
