Although COVID-19 tends to connote a negative impact, especially on education, it has, on the bright side, urged developing countries like Algeria to mandatorily opt for including online teaching, for the first time, to adapt to the given situation. Since then, reforming the educational sector through ICTs to cope with the demands of the advanced information-age society that Algeria is surrounded by has become the motto of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Indeed, a real change and effort on the part of the Ministry have been felt lately toward promoting online teaching in Algerian universities to leverage the quality of education and curricula and modernise the sector as a long-term objective. Therefore, the present paper overviews the developments made during and after COVID-19 and highlights the issues that came across the shift from traditional to online-based teaching by portraying the studies tackled in this regard.
