Interculturalism has become a necessity for successful integration into the global community, and language is one of its primary manifestations. Effective intercultural communication relies on having a common language, and applied linguistics has much to offer in understanding and facilitating intercultural interactions, especially in situations where a single language dominates as the lingua franca. This study explores the role of language in interculturalism, emphasizing how applied linguistics can bridge cultural gaps by improving communication strategies. It examines the dynamics of using a lingua franca, such as English, to foster mutual understanding among diverse cultures. The analysis highlights the importance of linguistic competence and cultural sensitivity in promoting effective communication. By integrating theoretical insights with practical applications, the research aims to contribute to the development of more inclusive and effective intercultural communication practices. Ultimately, it underscores the significance of language as a tool for building cohesive, harmonious, and globally connected communities.
