تهدف هذه الورقة البحثية إلى تحليل المنظور المسيحي المتعلق بتفهم الإسلام والذي يتبدى عبر ترجمة معاني القرآن الكريم، وهي عملية تعكس قناعات الغرب فيما يتصل بالأصول الثقافية والتراثية للشرق، وتكشف الورقة الصعوبات المحيطة بعملية الترجمة، لغوية كانت أم عقائدية والتي توجب التغلب عليها حتى يقدم المترجم نصاً دينياً سائغاً للقارئ العربي. غير أن ثمة حساسية أصولية تنطوي عليها عملية الترجمة، علاوة على طبيعة المصادر المتاحة للمترجم والتي يصعب عليه أحياناً فهمها تماماً لكونها ذات خصوصية شرقية تراثية، وكلها أمور تجعل من عملية الترجمة درباً من المستحيل.
In the present paper, we will attempt to analyze the Christian perspective to the translation of the Qur'an. We will show mat the Christian approach is, consciously or unconsciously, influenced by the conviction of the intellectual inferiority of Islam compared with Islam. In the process, we will also think thorough some theological as well linguistic difficulties which accompany the translation of the Qur'an. As a process, translation works on the domestication of the original text to make it accessible for the target reader. The application of such a process to the Qur'an is bound to raise difficulties if not controversies given the sensitive nature of the meaning of the Qur'anic text Other than the issue of sensitivity, the translator faces formidable problems while interpreting the text at die source language level, and transforming it into a fully integrated target language text. The problem of interpretation lies in me diverse nature of the available sources (eg. Tradition and biographies) for understanding the meaning of the Qur'anic text.
