المستخلص: هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى تقديم مفهوم التسويف، وبيان المتغيرات المرتبطة به، وأهم البحوث التي أجريت بصدده، فضلا عن إعداد المقياس العربي للتسويف. وقد وضع هذا المقياس اعتمادا على ثلاثة مصادر. ويتكون المقياس من 20 بندا، لها أعلى ارتباطات بالدرجة الكلية، يجاب عن كل منها على أساس مقياس خماسي، وتشير الدرجة المرتفعة إلى ارتفاع التسويف. وأسفر التحليل العاملي بأسلوب المكونات الأساسية للعشرين بندا عن ثلاثة مكونات هي: إضاعة الوقت، والتأجيل والتأخير في المواعيد، وعدم تنظيم الوقت. وللمقياس ثبات وصدق مرتفع، كما ارتبط المقياس العربي للتسويف بكل من: الوسواس القهري، والكمالية (موجب)، ونط السلوك أ (سالب)، وفي ذلك مؤثر على الصدق الاتفاقي والاختلافي لمقياس التسويف، وحصل الذكور على متوسط درجات في التسويف أعلى من الإناث بمستوى دال إحصائيا، وبحجم أثر متوسط.

The purpose of this study was to introduce the concept of procrastination and the determine of the variables associated with it, as well as construct the Arabic Scale of Procrastination (ASP), and to estimate its reliability and validity. The items pool consisted of three sources: (a) the items of five international procrastination scales, (b) an open-ended question directed to senior students of psychology , and (c) the experience of the present researchers. The items number reached to 71 items which applied on a sample of Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training. The correlations were computed. A 20 items with highest correlations were retained. The final form of the ASP consisted of 20 items, answered on 5- point Likert scale. The total scale score can range from 20 to 100, in which the high score denotes high procrastination. The principal components analysis yielded three components: Wasting time, Retardation of deadlines, and Bad time management. Alpha and test-retest reliability ranged from 0.91 to 0.94 respectively indicating internal consistency and temporal stability. Criterion-related validity was 0.86, indicating good validity. The ASP was significantly correlated with obsession compulsion and perfectionism (positive), and type A behaviour (negative). Males obtained significantly higher mean ASP score than female. The ASP is viable in the use of Arab researches in the areas of personality, and psychopathology.
