|a The present study deals with one of the Arab tribes. It is entitled " The Shayban's and their role in public life, from the beginning of the Umaiyad up tp the end of the first Abbasid era ". Surely, this tribe had enjoyed a prominent position in the history of Arabs before and after Islam, especially after Thiqar battle which was a turning point in the history of the tribe. This battle had stopped the Persian offence against the Arabs. The thesis has reached at the following, after dividing the research into three chapters an introduction, a conclusion and a bibliography. The Shayban's are a tribe descending from the Adnani, Bakir bin Wa'il. They also compare and contrast the points of strength and weakness of the movements which weakened the Umaiyad Califate and led finally to it's fall. The second chapter, in it's two sections, conclude that the opposition movements were reactivated during the rule of the first Abbasids. These movements had taken the Euphrates island as their homeland as it suffered a lot in comparison with other areas of the state. It also shows the leading roles of the two leaders Ma'an bin Za'ida and Yazeed bin Mazyad. The third chapter centres around one mainpoint that the Shaybans contributed through a group of it's youth in enriching thought and culture especially in Islamic Tiqih, Hadith and Arabic language.
