520 | |b The present study tackles a problematic area in translating the Holy Qur'an when dealing with the phenomenon of replicated verses. Inimitability "الإعجاز" ('i'jaz) of the Holy Qur'an has four main categories: Rhetorical, Scientific, Legislative and Narrative. Replication is a sub-category of Rhetorical inimitability. The main objective of this study is to investigate the meaning of replicated verses and how they can be translated within the whole Surah taking the seven standards of textuality into consideration. The researcher examines five Surahs in the Holy Qur'an that are rich in replicated verses, Al-Qamar Surah 54, Al-Rahman Surah 55, Al-Mursalat Surah 77, Al-Inshiqaq Surah 84 and Al-Shareh Surah 94. Furthermore, a number of authoritative interpretation sources have been adopted, the most important of which is Tafseer Al-Tabari, Qutb, Al-Qasimi and Al-Razi, in addition to the Arabic sources which deal with inimitability of the Holy Qur'an. The replicated verses have been analyzed presenting the meaning and the purpose of repetit ion. The researcher has examined three common translations of the meanings of the Holy Qur'an: Yousef Ali (A. T.), Irving (I. T.) and Al-Hayek (H. T.) through presenting how they translated the replicated verses, and adopting some of their translations. Finally, alternative translations have been proposed to reflect the original meaning to delineate the purpose of replication for both Arab and non-Arab Muslims. The major findings reveal that the replicated verses in the five Surahs investigated in this study have different meanings according to the meaning of the whole Surah and the verses that precede and follow the replicated verses. So, they must be translated within context rather than out of context, which proves that the translation is for the meanings of the Holy Qur'an, not a literal translation of the Holy verses. | ||
