|b In this work, we studied the effect of the age and educational level on inhibition and flexibility, by an arabic version of the Stroop test (4 boards). We analyzed the scores of 401 subjects, old from 16 to 70 years, and divided into 4 age groups and 3 educational levels. The scores are defined in terms of speed (execution time), accuracy (errors) and derived data (indices). We tested the hypothesis that advance in age would be accompanied by reductions of the performances in conditions of interference (inhibition) or requiring a mental flexibility. The temporal performances seem to support the idea of a progressive deterioration with the age of these two functions. However, after control the speed of treatment and perceptive/motor capacities, it appears that inhibition is maintained to the about sixty, and does not know improvement with the level of schooling. Flexibility is on the other hand, affected rather early (as of about thirty) by advance in age, and knows an improvement with the increase in the level of schooling. The interaction of the age with the educational level describes the educational level as a significant factor in the maintenance of this function with aging.
