استقامة الحياة الدنيا وسعادتها لا تحصل إلا إذا كان الإنسان آمنا على نفسه مرتاح القلب، وهادئ النفس، لا يخاف من وقوع مكروه يهدد أمنه، أو ينتقص من دينه، أو ينتهك حرماته، أو يفرض عليه ما يتعارض مع دينه وثقافته من أفكار وأخلاق. ومن بين هذه المقاصد الشرعية التي عنى بها الأصوليون, وأهتم السلف والخلف من لدن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إلى يومنا الحاضر, هو حفظ العقل وصونه من أي سلبيات أو اتجاهات أو تيارات تناهض هذا العقل, وتخرجه عن وظيفته ومعالمه وسماته الحقيقية. وأعني بالعقل المسلم، لارتباط هذا العقل بمناط التكليف والتوظيف لما له من ارتباط بعقيدته وأمته ومجتمعه ما يسمى اليوم (بالأمن الفكري). ولأهمية الأمن الفكري في علو دينه وأمته ومجتمعه من حيث استقامة السلوك والولاء والانتماء لها، وكذلك لارتباط الأمن الفكري بجميع مجالات الحياة السياسية والاجتماعية والاقتصادية وبأنواع الأمن الأخرى, كان هذا البحث الذي يميط اللثام عن هذا الجانب المهم من الحياة.
