|b Lexical Phonology is a theory that focuses on the organization of grammar; it deals with the relation between phonology and morphology. In this theory, all morphological processes and many phonological ones are performed in the lexicon. Phonological rules are divided into two classes: Lexical Rules and Postlexical Rules. Hence, all lexical phonological rules are performed in the lexicon, and all postlexical rules apply between words. The works of Alkhalil, Sibawayh, Almubarrad, Alfarisiy and Ibn Ginni manifest the interplay of morphological and phonological levels in the buildup of Arabic words. They tackled these issues as related to assimilation /?al?idgāām/, inversion /?alqālb/. substitution /?al?ibdaal/. etc. The paper sheds light on the theory of lexical phonology and depicts similar concepts presented by these ancient Arab writers in their books on grammar and morphology.
