|b This study is concerned with improving the transit storage system in west Port-Said cargo and container handling company (PSCCHC) yards. It provides new proposals supported with a developed computer software to generate daily optimal discharge plans for minimizing the distances between discharge points on the loading berth and storage stacks in transit yards and achieving fair workload distribution among transit storage areas simultaneously, consequently decrease the workload pressure on the level of yard crane. Multi-objective optimization problem approach was used to model the discharge plan problem in a mathematical form where it evaluates the solutions which are generated daily by genetic algorithm specially strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm 2 (SPEA2) technique. The computer software works in two stages; (1) collecting the scattered containers which will be discharged from vessels in homogeneous groups as much as possible, (2) continuous redistributing the containers' groups on available storage stacks until it gets stopping criteria.
