المستخلص: Vocabulary strategy is considered one of the most crucial aspects of language learning. Teaching vocabulary instruction has its significance for English learners to enhance and improve their reading and writing abilities. It is also one of the most challenging tasks for tutors to do. Vocabulary is of great importance to reading and writing achievement as it represents the core of meaning in any text. Knowledge of vocabulary meaning effectively is looked upon as an important factor for the success of any reading and writing task. It is assumed that learning vocabulary is problematic for language learners, as it is always dealt with in a rather traditional method, particularly in most of the educational institutions and language programs. The FL learners of English are unaware of many vocabulary learning strategies which represent an obstacle in recognizing vocabulary meaning in different texts. They encounter this difficulty at all levels of learning English, as well as in translating various texts. Leaning vocabulary strategy is considered the comer stone of learning English in general and a necessity for learners and trainers, in order to create a successful leamer of English, as well as to achieve the best results in the domain of learning English which has become inevitable in all fields nowadays. This paper focuses on the role of Cognitive and Metacognitive strategies which help learners of English in general to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words in different contexts. Cognitive and Metacognitive strategies are set basically to help English language learners to infer meaning from various contexts, so that they can become successful learners as well as skilful translators. This study recommends many techniques to help English Language learners to unlock word meaning, ways to make words their own and procedures to build personal vocabulary programs.
