المستخلص: جدد الأدب الجزائري الحديث في كثير من الأنواع الأدبية، منها الرواية التي بلغت مستوى عالياً من حيث الشكل والمضمون، ومن حيث الموقف الفلسفي والمبادئ الفنية، فجذبت إليها النقد الغربي الذي ركز في معظم الدراسات على الرواية المكتوبة باللغة الفرنسية.
الدراسات التي اشتغلت على الرواية الجزائرية كثيرة مقارنة بالرواية المغاربية، منها المؤلفات والأنطولوجيات والمقالات المحكمة، نظراً لأن الرواية الجزائرية المكتوبة باللغة الفرنسية قد حظيت باهتمام النقد الغربي لأسباب أيديولوجية، فاليسار الفرنسي ساند الكتاب الجزائريين لأنهم كانوا يكتبون عن ثورتهم ضد الامبريالية الفرنسية، وبالتالي فدعمهم لهؤلاء الكتاب هو إشارة إلى ظلم اليمين المتطرف للشعوب المستعمرة، إذ دعمهم واعتبر نصوصهم وصفاً دقيقاً للمأساة التي تعيشها الجزائر في ظل الاستدمار الغاشم، وقد حاول معظم هؤلاء النقاد اكتشاف مميزات تلك الأعمال الإبداعية التي لا تقل أهمية عن الأعمال الإبداعية الغربية، وأقر كثير منهم بأنها روايات حداثية من حيث توظيفها للزمن والفضاء والشخصيات والتبئير، في المقابل حاول نقاد اليمين المتطرف التعتيم على مضامين تلك الروايات التي اعتبرها روايات فرنسية ناتجة عن سياسة التحضير التي انتهجتها فرنسا مع الشعب الجزائري.

The modern Algerian literature renewed many of the literary genres. Included within that is the fictitious prose which reached a high level in terms of form and content and in terms of the philosophical stance and artistic principles. It attracted the western critiquing which focused in most of its studies upon the fictitious prose written in French.
The studies undertaken in respect to the Algerian fictitious prose are many in comparison to those undertaken in the Moroccan. They included authored writings, anthologies and succinct articles, whilst taking into consideration that the Algerian fictitious prose written in the French language received the attention of western critiquing for ideological reasons. Consequently, it was the French left that supported the Algerian authors because they used to write about their revolution against French imperialism. As such, their support to those writers was to highlight the oppression of the extreme rightwing against the colonized peoples; in the case where they supported them and considered their writings to be an accurate depiction of the tragedy which Algeria experienced under the brutal colonialism. Most of those critics attempted to discover the distinguishing qualities of those creative works which are of no less significance than the western creative works. And many of them asserted that they were representative of modern fictitious writings in respect to their use of time, space, personalities and focus. In contrast, the rightwing extremist critics attempted to generalize the contents of those writings which they considered to be French writings resulting from the civilizing policy which France followed in respect to the Algerian people.
