This study employs the writing portfolio and the word processor to improve level-three students’ writing skills at College of Languages & Translation, Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU). The problem of inadequate writing skills was documented through students’ writing performance on writing tests and instructor observations. Analysis of probable cause data reveals that students are exposed to inconsistent teaching methods and lack sufficient opportunities to practice writing. In the current study, the writing portfolio and the word processor are integrated in a teaching strategy in order to improve the students’ writing skills. Therefore, four intact classes were randomly selected; two classes - representing the experimental group - were taught through the writing portfolio and the word processor, and two classes receiving regular instruction to represent the control group. A pre-post-test for measuring the students’ performance in writing was given to the two groups before and after the treatment. The experimental group students’ performance on the writing post-test revealed that they made tangible progress in their writing skills. The witting portfollo and the word processor were powerful tools for learning and improving writing skills as they encouraged the experimental group students to benefit from the many activities they did in the writing process.
