This study investigated the teaching effectiveness of special education teachers in the UAE by examining both the school working environment and the teaching practices and skills they have. The working environment in the schools was assessed through whether special education teachers have assistant teachers, the number of workshops they attended and whether schools organize and encourage teachers to participate in workshops. The working environment was also examined in relation to the general atmosphere in the classrooms and the teachers’ perception of the reasons for a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere or the opposite situation. In addition, the teachers' teaching practices and skills in special education were examined, taking into consideration the behavioral approach to teaching. These practices and skills included planning teaching sessions, using teaching objectives, using individualized teaching, using rewards, using prompts, analyzing taught tasks, recording student's progress, using base-line of the taught tasks, teaching imitation to students, generalizing taught skills and managing classroom.
