هذه دراسة لمختارات شعرية مهمة، ضمت أربعة عشر بابا في أصناف الشعر التي يحتاج إليها في المكاتبات والمراسلات والمحاورات، بعضها أشعار مفقودة لكبار الشعراء أو المقلين أو اللغويين. استقى العبيدي التذكرة من حماسات أبي تمام والعسكري وابن فارس، والأخيرتان مفقودتان. وجلها نتف شعرية ومقطعات، وقصائدها غير كاملة، وضعها لدعم ملكة الشعر عند الناشئة وتجليتها، ولتنمية الذوق الأدبي عندهم وصقل المواهب، وشحذ القرائح. راعى مصنفها الترتيب الزمني غالبا، وفيها ملمح تاريخي ما لم يتعارض مع المعايير النقدية، ومنهج مصنفها نقدي توفيقي بين القديم والمحدث، فلم يكن من المتعصبين للقديم لقدمه ولم يقصر اختياراته على أشعار المحدثين، وكشفت التذكرة عن معايير النقد الضمني وأسس الاختيار في تجلية وظيفة الشعر الجمالية الفنية المتصلة بأصول عمود الشعر، بالإضافة لوظيفته التعليمية التي تراعي الأهداف التربوية الأخلاقية لديننا، ومد الأمة بروح الشجاعة والمقاومة والوفاء للقيم والفضائل.
This is a study of selected poems representing varieties of poetry that may be used in correspondences and debates. Compiled by Al'Ubaidi from the poetry of Abu Tammam, Alaskari, Ibn Fares, and less known poets, Al'Ubaidi's objective was to refine young people's literary taste and encourage the study of poetry.
