المستخلص: Praise be to God alone and peace and blessings be upon the Prophet after whom there is no other Islamic legal sciences are of paramount importance to researchers, especially those disciplines which illuminate minds and guide the people to worship God, Lord of the worlds. This is especially so because when it comes to permissible (mubah) acts, many people transgress the rights of God’s servants which Islamic law came to regulate, secure and preserve from harm. From this germinated the idea of researching the principles restricting permissible acts. The paper is divided into an introduction, three topics of discussion, a conclusion, the results reached, and a list of references. The introduction It comprises the linguistic and technical meanings of “restriction” and “permissible” and what is meant by restricting the permissible in this study. The first topic It discusses the elements that factor into the ruling of permissibility. It includes: 1. The omission or commission of an act that is considered permissible (neutral) in a particular instance based on surrounding circumstances. 2. The fact that something is deemed permissible in small amounts does not necessarily mean it is permissible in large amounts. Topic 2 It discusses transitioning from one ruling to another. This includes transitioning from: 1. Permissibility to prohibition and vice versa. 2. The general to the particular. 3. The particular to the general. Topic 3 It discusses taking into account the consequences of restricting the permissible: 1. When the omission of a forbidden act is contingent upon the commission of a permissible act or when a permissible act distracts from an obligation. 2. When a permissible act leads to the commission of a prohibited or offensive act. 3. When a permissible act leads to confusion among the masses. 4. When the condition of soundness is absent .
