تناول هذا البحث دراسة تحليلية نقدية مقارنة لمنهج الإمام أبي منصور الماتريدي العقدي بين النقل والعقل، وقد قسمت البحث إلى أربعة مباحث تضمنت: نبذة عن الإمام الماتريدي، ودور العقل في الفكر الإسلامي، ومنهج الإمام الماتريدي الكلامي، ثم بيان آراء المفكرين في مسألة العقل والنقل عند الإمام الماتريدي عرض ونقد، ثم ترجيح القول الأصوب، ويهدف البحث إلى بيان موقف الماتريدي من النقل والعقل، وتبرئته من الأقوال التي تنسب إليه تغليب العقل على النقل واتباع منهج المعتزلة، أو التوسط بين النقل والعقل، أو بين المعتزلة والأشاعرة، إذ إن كلمة توسط ليست دقيقةً في التعبير عن حقيقة منهج الماتريدي، وكان من أهم نتائج البحث: أن منهج الإمام الماتريدي منهج يبصر بعين العقل مستنيرا بنور النقل، ومن الخطأ أن نعد منهجه توفيقياً؛ فالتوفيق يكون بين متخاصمين، ولا خصام بين النقل الصحيح والعقل السليم، وليس هو بالمنهج الوسط؛ فالتوسط فيه إشارة إلى الاختيار من الطرفين وأخذ الجيد وترك الرديء، والحق أن الماتريدي أخذ بالنقل كاملاً، وعرف حدود العقل فلم يتجاوزها، وإن من الخطأ قياس آراء الماتريدي على الأشعرية أو المعتزلة للحكم عليها، فإن مقياس الحكم هو القرب أو البعد من الكتاب والسنة.
