|a لم تكن التأثيرات العميقة التي نتجت عن الانتخابات التشريعية في زنجبار، في يوم من الأيام ناتجة من سخونة المعركة الانتخابية والمنافسة بين الأحزاب فحسب بقدر ما كانت انعكاس لسنوات طوال من السيطرة الاستعمارية، التي عملت على تعميق العزلة بين فئات الشعب، وجعلت كل فئة من الفئات مُنفصلة داخل طبقة اجتماعية واقتصادية وسياسية، وعملت على شحن المجتمع عنصرياً بهدف خدمة المصالح الاستعمارية، ومن هنا تحول الصراع الانتخابي بين الأحزاب من معركة انتخابية بين حزبين رئيسيين، إلى معركة بقاء هدف كل طرف فيها إلى إفناء الطرف الآخر، وهو الأمر الذي ظل في زيادة حتى تبلور آخر الأمر في انفجار ثورة 1964 في زنجبار، التي شهدت خلع السلطان، وإقصاء المنافسين ودخول البلاد حقبة جديدة من تاريخها السياسي.
