المستخلص: تناول البحث بالدراسة اللغات السامية، تحدث عن مفهوم المصطلح، ورأي بعض اللغوين العرب حوله، وضرورة استبدال هذا المصطلح بمصطلح يتفق والحقائق العلمية والتاريخية والجغرافية. ووقف البحث على التوزيع الجغرافي لهذه اللغات، مستعرضا خصائصها اللغوية؛ الصوتية والصرفية والنحوية والدلالية، كما أشار إلى أوجه الاختلاف بين اللغات الشمالية واللغات الجنوبية. ودرس البحث ظواهر لغوية في المحكية اليمنية وفي العربية الفصحى، وبقاء بعض الظواهر عصيا على التغبير على الرغم من كر الليالي والأيام، مما يعود إلى السامية الأم، أو إلى إحدى اللغات المتفرعة عنها. مشيرا إلى بعض ما حدث فيه تطور لغوي في الاستعمال الفصيح في ظواهر مختلفة مما اختلفت حوله آراء اللغويين العرب في القديم، وفسره المحدثون في ضوء اللغات السامية.

The research dealt with the Semitic languages, talking about the concept of the term, the opinion of some Arab linguists concerning it, and the need to replace this term with a another consistent with the scientific, historical and geographical facts. The research focused on the geographical distribution of these languages, reviewing their linguistic, phonetic, morphological, syntactic and semantic characteristics. It also pointed out the differences between the northern languages and the southern languages. Moreover, the research examined the linguistic phenomena in the Yemeni language and classical Arabic, the survival of certain phenomena difficult to change despite the passing of time, which is attributed to Proto-Semitic, or to one of the sub-languages. In that sense, it pointed to some of what has happened in the linguistic development in the eloquent use in different phenomena involving the different opinions of the Arab linguists in the ancient times, and interpreted by modernists in light of Semitic languages.
