هدف البحث إلى الكشف عن التحول من مصطلح الإعاقة الى القصور الوظيفي. وأشار الى أن هذا التحول يثير الكثير من الخلط على الرغم من وجود شبه اتفاق بين معظم الكتابات والأدبيات في ميدان التربية الخاصة حولهما. أما فيما يخص التمييز والتفرقة بين المصطلحين فأظهره البحث من خلال عدة محاور. تضمن المحور الاول التحول من مصطلح الإعاقة إلى العجز حيث أن الكثيرين يستخدمون مصطلحات مثل العجز والإعاقة بشكل متبادل دون التمييز بينهما، وأنهما يحملان في طياتهما انعكاسات بالغة الأهمية على الأساليب التربوية والعلاجية. كما أوضح البحث أنه يجب التفريق بين مصطلحي العجز والإعاقة. وجاء المحور الثاني عارضا لنموذج تحول المصطلحات والتحول من مصطلح الإعاقة أو التخلف العقلي إلى مصطلح القصور الفكري نظراً لأن مصطلح الإعاقة يسبب عبء نفسي على آباء وأمهات هؤلاء الأطفال فينعكس سلباً على تربيتهم لأبنائهم المتخلفين عقلياً.كُتب هذا المستخلص من قِبل دار المنظومة 2018
The research aim was to detect the shift from the term disability to functional impairment. It pointed out that this transformation raises a lot of confusion, although there is almost agreement between most writes and literature in the field of special education around them. As for the distinction and discrimination between the two terms, the research showed it through several axes. The first axis included the transition from the term disability to retarded, as many people use terms such as disability and retarded, without discrimination, and have important implications for its reflection on the educational and therapeutic methods. The research also explained that the terms disability and retarded must be distinguished.
