520 |b This research aimed at developing the necessary English reading comprehension skills for the 1st year preparatory school students on using collaborative problem based learning. The participants of the research were (120) who were randomly selected and divided into two groups; experimental group and control group (60 students each). The necessary reading comprehension skills were determined through the use of a checklist that was approved by a panel of jury members. Then, a pre/post reading comprehension test was designed to measure the students' reading comprehension skills. The test was pre-administrated to the participants before the experiment. During the experiment, the experimental group received instruction through a collaborative problem based learning treatment while the control group received the regular instruction. After the experiment, the test was post-administrated to the participants. The results showed that the experimental group students' performance was improved due to the collaborative problem based learning treatment. Also, the use of collaborative problem based learning had a large effect on developing the 1st year preparatory school students' reading comprehension skills. Thus, it was recommended to be used for developing reading comprehension skills.
