The writer has invited attention to a significant feature in human intellection and reasoning. Highlighting the dynamic nature of ideas and their consequential logic, he informs us that the great Muslim Scholars had been keenly aware of these dynamics. This awareness has been displayed in many positions taken by the scholars on a number of issues. These scholars, the author explains through citing significant illustrative examples, did not confine their reflection to an issue in isolation from its consequential logic (ma’ l t). They took into account broader consequences in the dynamic range of ideas. They thus displayed their acute understanding of the organic nature of human intellection and the consequential flow of logical reason. With this background duly explained in the light of relevant texts, the author examines the position of Imam Ahmad on the view of al-Kar b s about the "word'. He explains the rationale of Imam Ahmad's position in terms of this consequential logic in the dynamic world of ideas. In addition, the writer provides a brief over-view of the biography of al-Kar b s and his place in Muslim Scholarship of his time. |
