المستخلص: This article addresses some problematic issues related to the way in which the biographical sources have dealt with one of the Scribes of the Revelation namely, Abd Allāh ibn Sa’d ibn Abī Sar. Using a critical analysis approach, the writer has showcased, analyzed, criticized and identified the prevailing views concerning the issues involved in the treatment of this Scribe. The article arrives at a number of results. For instance, irrespective of the high political and military position that Ibn Abī Sar had enjoyed at his time, most parts of his biography are vague. This renders it hard for any researcher to get a clear view about his life from biographies’ treatment. That is because we find numerous contradicting views about his life. This article has identified the most important problematic issues related to his biography in the various sources such as: the problem of determining his date of birth, the date of his converting to Islam for the first time, the issue of determining his apostasy and its reasons, the question of being forgiven by the Prophet (pbuh) and lastly the problem of determining his date of death.
