تناول البحث دراسة تفصيلية للفن الشعبي من حيث دوافع اتجاه الشعوب نحو الفن الشعبي ومدلول الرمز فيه وأهمية دراسة الفن الشعبي، ثم تناولت الباحثة الخصائص التي تميز الفن الشعبي عن الفنون الأخرى، ونشأته ومسمياته، وتناولت الزخرف اللونية ومدلولاتها الرمزية. وتناول أيضا مقدمة جغرافية وتاريخية لدول الخليج وكذلك الزخارف والنقوش الخليجية بشكل عام ثم تناولت الباحثة دراسة زخارف ونقوش كل قطر خليجي منفردا بالتفصيل. وتم استعراض بعض الحرف الشعبية التقليدية التي تشتهر بها معظم بلاد الخليج. ثم قامت الباحثة في الجانب التطبيقي باستخدام بعض الزخارف الشعبية من التراث المصري واستحداث مجموعة من التصميمات الحديثة لبعض الأزياء الخارجية للمرأة المعاصرة، (العباءة، الفستان)، ونفس الشيء للوحدات الخليجية ثم الدمج بين التراثين المصري والخليجي بحلول تصميمية مبتكرة وتطبيقها على أزياء للمرأة المعاصرة. ثم قامت الباحثة بإعداد استمارة استبيان تم توزيعها على عشرة محكمين وتضمنت استطلاع لآراء المحكمين في الخمس عشر تصميما محل الدراسة من ناحية أربع محاور رئيسية وهي سمات الفن الشعبي، التصميم الزخرفي (القيم الجمالية) لملابس السيدات، مقومات تصميم الأزياء ومسايرة الموضة، المساهمة في توثيق العلاقات العربية وتم الحصول على النتائج التالية: جاء بالمرتبة الأولى محور "التصميم الزخرفي لملابس السيدات" وجاء بالمرتبة الثانية محور "سمات الفن الشعبي" وجاء بالمرتبة الثالثة محور "المساهمة في توثيق العلاقات العربية وجاء بالمرتبة الأخيرة محور "مقومات تصميم الأزياء ومسايرة الموضة وبالرغم من تفاوت آراء الحكام للمحاور الأربعة لكل تصميم إلا أن نسبة الاتفاق عالية.
