يعتبر الحفاظ على الهوية الثقافية من أبرز القضايا العربية المطروحة للبحث والدراسة، وذلك لأهميتها وخطورتها على أمتنا العربية، ولاسيما لأننا نعيش في عصر "العولمة" النظام العالمي الجديد الذي يتسم بالثورة المعلوماتية في مختلف وسائل الاتصالات (إنترنت، تقنيات إلكترونية، ... وغيرها)، والذي يستهدف مختلف ميادين الحياة (السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية وخصوصا الثقافية). لهذا، تكمن الخطورة التي تتربص بأمتنا العربية، التي طالما تميزت بشخصية ثقافية ودينية وثروة فكرية مميزة، تجلت على مر العصور، ولاقت احتراما وتقديرا من مختلف الحضارات لما قدمته للعالم. وفرض الثقافية الأمريكية (بصفتها مصدر العولمة) بما لديها من نفوذ عالمي واقتصادي وعسكري وتقني، والترويج لذاتها الأحادية كأفضل الثقافات وبسط سطوتها الثقافية المقتدرة بديلا عن ثقافتنا العربية. ولا شك أن العمار العربية تأثرت بشكلي كبير، فعندما نتساءل عن أسلوب التصميم المستخدم في المباني السكنية العربية؟، لا نجد إجابة لهذا السؤال لغياب الأسلوب، فبعد ما تميزت العمار الإسلامية بأسلوب فريد وخصوصية مطلقة، أصبحنا نسير في ركب لا يشبهنا ولا يمت إلى تاريخنا وجذورنا الحضارية والثقافية بأي صلة إلا ما قد ندر منها. لذلك، سنحاول بهذه الدراسة تحليل تجربة الهندسة العربية زها حديد بأسلوب التصميم التفكيكي لاستخلاص الحلول التي تساعدنا في العملية التصميمية بما يتلاءم مع هويتنا العربية ويحافظ على خصوصيتها وتميزها، لكي لا تذوب هويتنا الثقافية بشكلي تام في وجه العولمة.
