|b The study can be summarized as follows: The meaning of qada': The command to make up an act of worship in its original manner or the performance of an act of worship after its legally prescribed time has elapsed. The meaning of grounds for qada': A new command or reason obligating performance. By 'a new command', we mean separate evidence such as ijma' (consensus), a clear divine legislation indicating the obligation of performing a missed act of worship in its original manner outside of its legally prescribed time frame, or qiyas. The meaning, of sabab (reason): The prerequisites that render an act of worship obligatory or recommended such as the arrival of its prescribed time. The study arrived at several results that include: Qada' is divided into two categories: (i) making up a missed devotional act in its conventional manner and, (ii) making up a missed devotional acts in a way other than its conventional manner. The point of contention concerns the former i.e. the identical performance of a missed devotional act the manner of which is arrived at by dint of reason such as prayers in lieu of prayers and fasting in lieu of fasting. The preponderant opinion concerning the prerequisites of making up a missed act of worship is the opinion of the majority of scholars, namely that the manner of performance of a missed act of worship follows the manner of performance of the original act i.e. the manner of performance is not contingent on a new command. The scholarly difference of opinion concerning the prerequisites of making up a missed act of worship according to Islamic legal theorists is semantical in nature and had a great impact on the branches of jurisprudence.
