This study examines the effect of transformational and transactional leadership styles on the total job satisfaction of the employees working in the public sector and private sector organizations in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The sample consisted of 169 employees working in four organizations in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ—Form 5X) was used to measure the transformational and transactional leadership, and Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) was used to measure the total job satisfaction of the employees. The hypotheses were tested using a correlation method. The results indicate that there is a significant positive correlation between transformational leadership style and employees’ total job satisfaction, whereas, there is no relationship between transactional leadership style and employees’ total job satisfaction. The study also suggests that organizations should reflect the four dimensions of the transformational leadership style (namely, idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration) in the organizations’ mission and vision, strategy, culture and structure. |
