المستخلص: اللغة في طور نشأتها يدل اللفظ الواحد فيها على معنى واحد، ومع تطورها تظهر ألفاظ الواحد منها يدل على أكثر من معنى، ومعان يدل عليها بأكثر من لفظ، وقد أشار إليها سيبويه في كتابه، ووضع من جاء بعد لها مصطلحات الترادف والاشتراك اللفظي والتضاد، ولقد عُني اللغويون والمشتغلون بالتفسير والفقه بآثار ذلك التطور اللغوي على واقع اللغة في عصور الاحتجاج، وصنفوا فيها الكتب. وقد توافق اللغويون على تعريف تلك الظواهر اللغوية، لكنهم إلى زمننا لم يتفقوا على وجودها، فما بين مقر بوجودها، ومنكر لها متأول لشواهدها، وتوسط معاصرون فأقروا بوجودها مع ردهم كثيرا من شواهدها، وقد رجح في البحث أن اللغويين القدامى لم يختلفوا على وجود تلك الظواهر في الواقع اللغوي، بل اتفقوا، ورد فريق المنكرين وقوع تلك الظواهر إلى أسباب لهجية ولغوية، وهذا لا يعد إنكارا للظواهر، بل تفسير لوجودها في الواقع اللغوي.
