لقد زاد الاهتمام بالأطفال ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة بشكل ملحوظ مع نهاية القرن العشرين فتغيرت نظرة المجتمع الإنساني لهم فأصبحت معايير تقدم المجتمعات ورقيها تقاس بمدى الاهتمام بذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة من خلال توفير الخدمات لهم في كافة المجالات واستثمار وتنمية طاقاتهم وإمكاناتهم بشكل عام ويتناول البحث فئة متلازمة الدوان بشكل خاص حيث توليهم دولة الكويت الرعاية الشاملة من خلال برامج دمجهم مع أفراد المجتمع ودفعهم ليصبحوا أفراد فاعلين بالمجتمع لهم القدرة على التعبير الغني وإنتاج مشغولات فنية يمكن لها أن تكون لهم مصدر ثقة بأنفسهم كنظرائهم من الأطفال في ولقد تبلورت فكرة البحث من خلال العمل التطوعي للباحثة في إحدى مراكز متلازمة الداون في دولة الكويت من خلال تعليمهم التربية الغنية وعدة زيارات لمدارس التربية الخاصة في الكويت وقد لوحظ من خلال ذلك أن خطط البرامج الغنية قائمة على اجتهادات المعلمين والمتطوعين في تلك المراكز التأهيلية كما أن المواد والوسائل الغنية المستخدمة معهم تشكل نوع من الرتابة والممل للطفل دون إتاحة الحرية للتعبير الغني للطفل التي تجد الباحثة عكسها بتناول الترخيم والوسيط المائي إمكانية التعبير الغني بمهارات فنية جديدة بالنسبة لهم وممتعه تتيح لهم الحرية بالرسم على الماء واختيار اللون والمساحة الحرة دون التقيد بحدود الشكل المرسوم على الورق كما إن يتيح أسلوب الترخيم التداخل والدمج اللوني بدرجات متنوعة ومختلفة تضفي نوع من الثراء البصري للطفل والإحساس بالسعادة أثناء الرسم.
