Difficulties Facing Libyan Universities Students in Learning English Language Conversations: A Case Study of the Faculty of Education-Al-Mar at University of Benghazi

The objective of this study is to identify the problems encountered by students in conversations during learning English as a foreign language. The study also tries to suggest some useful techniques to improve students’ speaking English, and to examine the relationship between the students’ achievements and the role of the instructor in the classroom. The researchers used descriptive analytic method. A questionnaire of 4 items and speaking test were used as tools for data collection. The study sample consisted of (100) students from the faculty of education in El-Marj, Benghazi University, semester one from different majorsas (a case study). The results were analyzed using simple calculations for means in relation to the questionnaire. The main results of the study were that, students face difficulties in speaking during learning English as a foreign language. Arabic causes some barriers in speaking fluently, there is a significant relationship between the adequate practice of English, early exposure to English and successful conversation in learning English as a foreign language. It is recommended that students should be encouraged to speak English when learning English inside and outside the classroom. They should not be allowed to speak Arabic during English classes. Early exposure to English language is strongly recommended. الهدف الرئيس لهذه الدراسة هو تحديد المشاكل التي تواجه الطلاب في المخاطبة باللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية. حاولت الدراسة اقتراح بعض الطرق المفيدة لتحسين أداء الطلاب في المخاطبة باللغة الإنجليزية ودور الأستاذ في ذلك في قاعة الدرس. استخدم الباحثون المنهج الوصفي التحليلي في الدراسة استخدم الباحث استبانة من 4 أسئلة وامتحان تحصيلي في المخاطبة. تكونت عينة الدراسة من 100 طالب وطالبة من الفصل الأول للدراسة في كلية التربية المرج. جامعة بنغازي وتم تحليل النتائج عن طريق حساب المتوسطات وعلاقتها بإجابات الطلاب في الاستبيان. أهم نتائج الدراسة كانت في وجود صعوبات تواجه الطلاب في المحادثة خلال تعلم اللغة الإنجليزية. اللغة العربية تشكل عائقا في التحدث بطلاقة. وتوجد علاقة بين البداية المبكرة في تعلم اللغة في اجادتها مستقبلا. الطلاب لا يمارسون التحدث باللغة الإنجليزية داخل أو خارج قاعة الدرس. أوصت الدراسة بإدخال اللغة الإنجليزية في مراحل مبكرة في التعليم العام. وتشجيع الطلاب على التحدث باللغة الإنجليزية داخل وخارج قاعة الدرس. |
