|b Given the languages in the field education, the Ivorian community has a “multilingual” system, including French, English, Spanish, German, Arabic and, finally, local languages. Some of them are recognized by the government and thus benefit from special policies, such as European languages, and some that are not, such as Arabic, which is common among Muslims and in Islamic schools, and national languages. In spite of all kinds of challenges faced by the Arabic language, since the occupiers and so far, it has managed to establish itself a remarkable place to become «language of religion» and «language of education». Through the educational reform project in 1977, legal provisions were devoted to demonstrating the integration of national languages into formal education. The history of Arabic language in the country dates back to the period when Islam entered Ivory Coast, and during that period has benefited from being a prestige language, both in publics and kings’ eyes. over that period and since the commencement of colonialism (1893- 1958), the Arabic Language turned from being in the remarkable status it gained to a more isolation and marginalization one, even it suffered from all kinds of political, social, economic and linguistic restrictions until 1987. After this period, the government and all related people tried multiple actions in order to solve the situation, that was created in great part due to the colonial powers-, like the meeting of (1993), a statistic study in order to limit the number of Arabic language learners (2008), and etc. Therefore, this research seeks to describe the status of the Arabic language in Côte d’Ivoire, by using the descriptive analytical approach.
