The study aims to identify the nature of the relationship between the dimensions of unstable family climate and the level of self- esteem, and to examine the potential differences between the dimensions of both family climate and self- esteem as per the gender variable, as well as to explore the extent to which the dimensions of family climate contribute to predicting self- esteem among secondary school students. The study utilized the comparative descriptive correlational method, and the sample surveyed included 200 secondary school Kuwaiti students from both sexes, to whom the family climate scale of Aladdin Kafafi and the Rosenberg self- esteem scale (as translated by Ahmed Abdulkhaleq) were applied. The findings indicated a significant inverse correlation between the level of self- esteem on the one hand, and the scores on both the overall family climate scale and the combined family scale on the other. The findings also revealed that there are no statistically significant differences between the male and female averages on the overall family climate scale, as well as on the dimensions of dehumanization, combined family, and abnormal emotional climate. The differences detected were only between the averages of both sexes regarding the relationship between the cupboard love of the child and self- esteem, and these differences were in favor of males. It was also found that the family climate dimensions account for 5.4% of the variation in self- esteem scores, and that the combined family dimension is the only dimension that contributes significantly to the level of predicting self- esteem.
