المستخلص: School is where learning takes place, and strategies used by teachers to promote learning by their students are of main importance. In western cultures, drawing generated by the learner himself is potentially one of these strategies. After a brief definition of what student-generated drawing is, we review the main reasons for which school is using it to sustain learning in western cultures. Then, we present a series of conclusions from experimental research on the utility of self-generated drawings in different learning tasks. A body of experimental psychological studies has indeed assessed the efficacy of student¬generated drawings on learning, and has provided a theoretical account of its impact. We go on by discussing convergences and divergences between what practice has suggested and what research has shown on student-generated drawings. We finally conclude on the potentiality of student-generated drawing as a learning strategy and consider possible recommendations for its use in the school context.
