Teaching and learning literary texts, particularly Novel, is difficult, because of the huge amount of information which can be extracted from any piece of literary texts. Such information can be derived from the different characteristics and from the styles and the way in which it is written including setting, speeches, plots, characters, techniques, literary devices, symbol, allusion… etc., which make it unique. Thus the students’ achievement is low. The present study aims at investigating the effect of applying Mind Map (MM) strategy in teaching and learning literary text on the achievement of Iraqi EFL university students. The following hypothesis is stated: there is a positive effect of applying MM strategy on the achievement of Iraqi EFL University students in literary texts tests. The sample of the present study consists of 140 students from the Department of English, College of Education for Human Science, University of Babylon, during the academic year 2019-2020 divided into two groups: experimental group taught using mind map strategy and a control group taught using the tradition way of teaching. The result shows that there is a significant difference between the two groups. The students of the experimental group are better in their achievement in the literary test than those of the control one. This indicates that teaching Novel by using Mind map (MM) strategy is more effective than using the traditional way of teaching.
