المستخلص: The paper aims to investigate on the roles of the English language textbooks used in the Algerian educational system and their impact on pupils’ outcomes. It sheds light on the textbooks’ content which is considered as the first purpose for which they are designed and mainly on the nature and the quality of the selected texts used for these purposes. The paper "Algerian Textbooks’ References between Academicism and Randomness" is an attempt to shed light on the way files are managed, on their respective selected texts, their references and origins and how they can affect pupils’ intake as well as their expected outcomes. A quantitative study will be used m this investigation and all the statistics and results will be shown in tables, charts, graphs followed by analyses and comments. The results will show that academicism in referencing the middle and secondary school textbooks wasn’t respected at all, mainly when it deals with official textbooks designed by governmental authorities.
