520 | |b This study evaluates the utilization of an integrated approach to analyze the electronic discourse used in an academic institution. Therefore, a study was conducted at the faculty of arts and languages in El-Oued university. A corpus of 100 e-mails from the routine work is compiled. Then a critical discourse analysis approach based on an analytic framework that advocates both Halliday‟s Systematic Functional Grammar and Herring‟s discourse analysis approach to Computer Mediated Communication were adopted. This integration of analysis approaches was applied to detect the extent of conformity of those e-mails to the genre conventions of the institutional academic discourse. Results revealed the existence of flaming, unconventional abbreviations and incomplete sentences, absence of some compulsory moves and mailing to non-intended readers. | ||
