المستخلص: Students should aim to become more independent of their teachers. Carrying out self-assessment is, therefore, the necessity of supporting students’ learning. In spite of its importance, self-assessment has not been commonly used in the learning process. The main objective of this article is to first introduce self-assessment as a strategy of learning into classrooms, present the background of the study, and raise an awareness of the importance of using learning strategies including a learner-centered method of assessment. The study discusses the role of assessment and learning in the classroom, gives more background on self-assessment and its important role in the classroom, and outlines the self-assessment process and its implementation in the learning process. It provides, some pedagogical principles and conclusions that have been drawn from this discussion.
