المستخلص: The subject of this article focuses on Arab-Islamic education in Senegal before the advent of French colonization. The problem that it tried to solve revolves around the circumstances of the introduction of this teaching in Senegambia. The article, therefore, analyzed the context of the emergence of this type of teaching. He also discussed the important role played by the Arab-Berbers who traveled all over the country to spread Arab-Islamic education and culture. The contribution of indigenous scholars trained by the Arab-Berbers was largely explained. The disciplines taught, the methods used, and the impact of such teaching were also the subject of an in-depth analysis in this work.

Le sujet du présent article est axé sur l’enseignement arabo-islamique au Sénégal avant l’avènement de la colonisation française. La problématique qu’il a tenté de résoudre tourne autour des circonstances de l’introduction de cet enseignement en Sénégambie. L’article a donc analysé le contexte de l’émergence de ce type d’enseignement. Il a examiné également l’important rôle joué par les Arabo-berbères qui sillonnèrent le pays pour y répandre l’enseignement et la culture arabo-islamiques. La contribution des lettrés autochtones formés par les Arabo-berbères y a été largement expliquée. Les disciplines enseignées, les méthodes qui étaient utilisées, ainsi que l’impact dudit enseignement ont aussi fait l’objet d’une analyse poussée dans ce travail.
