Iraqi students struggle to write compositions, which negatively impacts their English exam performance. The purpose of this study, which involved five educators from different institutions in Iraq, was to determine whether educators' understanding of the use of metadiscourse markers in writing contributed to the poor writing skills of EFL students in Iraq. It addresses the challenges faced by Iraqi teachers while writing paragraphs such as factual, procedural, and descriptive paragraphs. The goal of the study is to identify these problems and recommend appropriate treatments to overcome them. The researcher believes that it is essential to raise students' understanding of metadiscourse markers because it is a crucial component of their academic development. The research established how significant the distinction is. To evaluate the pupils' performance, the researcher had a group take a pre- and post-test.
