This experimental study aims to investigate the effectiveness of the computer-mediated instruction (CMI) approach on intermediate EFL learners’ reading comprehension recall and retention. In doing the research, 46 sixth grader EFL students were selected based on a convenience sampling procedure from secondary schools in Iraq. The Oxford Placement Test (OPT) and reading comprehension test were applied to ensure the accessibility and homogeneity of the participants which was the main rationale behind selecting them. The participants were assigned into two groups, i.e., an experimental group (N=23) which was labeled as the computer-mediated instruction group (CMIG), and the control group (CG) (N=23) which received the traditional method of teaching without any treatment. Having ensured the nortality of the data and homogeneity of the participants in terms of reading comprehension ability. To ensure the reliability of (OPT), and vocabulary tests, KR-21 method was used. Then SPSS data files were checked for data by taking frequency counts of the answering on all items from both data collection instruments. The main analysis was conducted to answer the research questions. The results of the analysis show that there is an effect on reading comprehension recall and retention. Where the study’s major finding indicated that computer-mediated instruction of reading courses significantly affected EFL learners’ reading comprehension recall and retention. It was well-proved that integrating computer technology and computer-aided applications in the process of language learning not only enhances the learners’ motivation and enthusiasm to pursue the line of education much more effectively but also gives them enough opportunities to engage more independently in the learning process.
