المستخلص: This study aimed at finding solutions for difficulties in translating Arabic proverbs into English which result of cultural differences. Considering Saudi students the study used a translation test which consisted of 15 proverbs to be translated by 30 students randomly chosen as a sample in Albaha University, Amehkwah College of Sciences and Arts College (Female Students Department.) The study also used a questionnaire which was introduced to 30 students who study translation at the English Department. Both the test and the questionnaire aimed at achieving the study objectives. To support the information stemming from the test and the questionnaire, relevant literature was reviewed. The study revealed that EFL students commit many errors in translating Arabic proverbs into English, the most apparent errors are the use of the wrong TL equivalent due to cultural variations between English and Arabic added the overuse of literal translation.. The study showed the lack of linguistic competence in both Arabic and English. Finally, the researcher suggested some solutions, first, a pre-test in English language must be applied to measure translation student's linguistic competence. Furthermore, a pre linguistic course, at a university level which covers both Arabic and English for three months, before beginning a translation course is very important to fill the gap in acquiring language skills. Using proverbs in the classroom in teaching English, in the warming –up step to familiarize the students with their cultural inheritance. Finally the researcher suggested annual competitions in translating Arabic proverbs for Albaha English departments.
